o.O DO THEY STILL DO THAT?

Yes, I know I should be studying, but if I don’t write this out, I’ll probably forget about it as I have on countless other occasions.

So, I have Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night as a part of my syllabus for the upcoming exam and I found that the dramatist has left a surprisingly large number of issues to the willing suspension of disbelief on the part of his audience. Like, how can Viola pass of in Duke Orsino’s court as a GUY??? Were they all brainless bimbos in the 16th century? Wouldn’t Viola’s physique give her away? In addition, how can Olivia mistake Sebastian as Cesario (who is Viola in disguise) and how can Antonio marry her on the spot, even if she is vehemently professing her love for him (Olivia actually thinks he is her sister)? Therefore, Viola, disguised as a man, is in love with Orsino, another man, while Olivia is hitting on another woman whom she thinks is a man…towards the end of the play Orsino starts discovering his feelings for his young page, Viola who is in fact for him a boy.

Excuse me, WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?

And oh, at the opening of the play, Orsino was supposed to be wooing Olivia.

Yeah. It is mindless. :P
Do they really look THAT non-differentiable???
But yeah, that diagram as difficult as the play.

Exams, Pre- and Post-

I wonder if this is a universal feeling.

Right before the semester/term/year finals, inanimate innocent things called books chase at you like Muay Thai fighters. Your sleeping patterns are disrupted; you look like underfed zombies, and sulk around as if the world was ending tomorrow. You postpone all parties. You say no to all the hangouts. And most importantly, you swear, that from next time, you’ll really really really study hard.

But as soon as you exit the exam hall, feeling rather elated for scraping through in spite of every 2min Facebook and daydreaming session…yeah, that’s right, SCREW exams! You’re getting pant-shitting drunk tonight! LOL!
By the way, the pictures are hand-drawn by me, inspired by This awesome blog called Hyperboleandahalf. :D

Sometimes...

What do you do when someone really close to you has no clue that they've hurt you real bad? I guess you apologize for the inconvenience. And wait for them to realize that you had been crying all through the previous night. Maybe hide behind words. But never, ever let them know, because that'll just make them sad and you even sadder. Instead, try listening to some Pink Floyd and Nirvana.

"And if they try to break down your disguise with their questions
You can hide hide hide
Behind paranoid eyes
You put on your brave face and slip over the road for a jar
Fixing your grin as you casually lean on the bar
Laughing too loud at the rest of the world..."

And yes, you're allowed to be sad once in a while.

Blah...

Some people have a very annoying self-pitying habit. We all have self-pitied at some point or the other, but with these section of psychos, it is a fully-fledged all engulfing reflex action. Most of them are not even aware of it. One little spark and before you know it, you’ve broken down the great wall of self-pity and it’s all over the place. You only need to voice your genuine anxiety about an upcoming exam and these self-pitiers will let you know, vehemently and in more details than you can tolerate how ill-prepared they are, what a great lot they need to study, only they are subjected to such misery…blah blah blah. Jeez, get a grip on yourself man!

There are worse things in life than a bloody exam damn it! And yes, voicing one’s worries isn’t a crime, but only when it is done occasionally and sparingly.

Some people refuse to learn, just as they refuse to grow up.

Syllabus and I

long time no see...
I really should be studying, but obviously writing about random stuff entirely unrelated to the syllabus always appealed to me more. And this is what i want to write about today. I won't claim I’m a prolific reader or have read a huge lot, but i do read. Unfortunately, what I read NEVER coincides with my college-prescribed syllabus. And mind you, I’m an English Major, in my final year too.

Okay, so we had Keats in our syllabus last semester. i should tell you here that I’ve been in love with that man since high school. I read a number of his poems, his sonnets and of course his odes. But by some weird luck, I never came across Ode to a Grecian Urn which was to be taught.
Again, sometime in my freshman year, we had a Jane Austen novel: Pride and Prejudice. i had read Mansfield Park and Sense and Sensibility but not Pride and Prejudice.
When we did Hardy, i had finished Far From the Madding Crowd but not The Return of the Native.
See what I mean? It can be a bit frustrating after a while.
And in my next and final semester, we have Frost and Eliot along with a few others and I’m pretty sure the poem we will be doing from either Frost or Eliot will neither be After Apple Picking, nor The Love Song of Arthur J. Prufrock.
I think it’s the syllabus’ way of taking revenge. It must have realized by now (heck, I’ve been going at this for almost 16 years of my 21 year old life!) that this disregard and disrespect is mutual. I never cared much about school/college work. And they don’t care about me. Yay! I feel good!
What can I say? Just my luck… ;)

dreams over reality

yes, i am back. not sure why or for how long.

but you know how people say, when you're in Love, reality's better than your dreams? i say: Bull Crap.

dreams are always much better than reality, whether you're in love of not. in my dreams, i can do what i want... fall off a five-storey building and land like a feather... drive at 70 miles an hour without having to learn anything... hell, in my dreams, i can have a pet Dino! could anything be cooler???
and in reality, i don't even own a driving license, i don't have a pet Dino, and would probably die if i tried to jump off great heights. also i do not have any skills other than playing the air-guitar and singing along off-key. and no one ever dies in my dreams. i can always see just the people i want to see. in reality, sure, i have a great boyfriend, who incidentally doesn't call me, ever... i'd take the Dino any day.
ciao.

to think or not to think...?

you know how we say, "i'm totally blank!" when we can't think of anything to say due to shock or surprise? well, what color is that blank? most of us would say, "white." but i thought about it and concluded that it's black instead. it's not the absence of thoughts that makes us go blank, but the presence of too many. this is why it's a black-blank, not a white-blank. it's like a spectrum of light. all colors present together makes black and it becomes difficult to separate one from the other. you can try it with water-colors too. it's the same with the mind too. it becomes blank due to the presence of too many thoughts. and not because of their absence... cheers!
